Have you just welcomed your first child into your family? Congratulations! We will hardly be the first to remind you that from now on your life will be very different. You may have purchased a life insurance policy to protect the future of your little family; having a baby may also have implications for your Pennsylvania home insurance coverage, but we’ll explain that later.

You probably had great fun preparing a nursery and buying a crib to make your baby’s home safe and comfortable. Although your baby may be quite young right now, before too long you’ll need to be looking at ways of making your home toddler-proof; precautions like fitting secure latches on cabinets and keeping the cords of blinds out of reach will help to keep an inquisitive and energetic toddler safe.

Having made the rooms in your house toddler-proof, it will be time to look outdoors. Are your fence and gate secure, or are there gaps where a child could slip through? You might want to consider building a new fence if your existing fence seems insecure; a new fence can be a quick way to change your home’s security and – unlike home improvement work indoors – building a new fence is unlikely to interrupt your household routines.

A new fence and a gate fitted with a strong childproof lock create a more private, safer home for you and your family. You may even decide to install a security system to make the entire home a bit safer. Improvements to your home’s security are likely to be considered favorably by your Pennsylvania home insurance provider so when you do enhance security at home remember to ask your insurer or agent if you qualify for discounted insurance premiums.
